The Poznań theater building was created according to the design of Max Littmann from the Munich studio Heilmann und Littman as the new seat of the City Theater. The first performance that took place in his building was "The Magic Flute" by W. A. Mozart, took place in 1910. In the interwar period, the theater being in German hands staged, among others, the world premiere of "Baltic Legends" by Feliks Nowowiejski, "Margier" by Konstanty Gorski and the Polish premiere of "Harnasi" - the ballet of Karol Szymanowski. In 1945, the theater building was a German resistance point, then a command point of the Soviet artillery commander was established here during the battles for the Citadel. On June 2, 1945, the theater known otherwise as the Poznań Opera began its official activity after World War II and was the first opera theater in Poland to resume artistic activities. The inauguration was staged by Krakowiaków and Górala, with music by Karol Kurpiński, directed by B. Horowski and set design by Z. Szpinger. This performance was played 79 times, in full audience. Since 2001, the theater has been publishing, editing "Operomania" whose chief editor was prof. Jarosław Mianowski. The Polish-German Hoffman Festival is also organized here annually, as well as the Poznań Ballet Spring. In addition, the institution organizes Poznań Opera Workshops targeted at children and youth. The theater is built in accordance with the rules of classical architecture of ancient Rome. It has a huge portico, several dozen monumental steps that limit the sides of the sculpture: on the left a woman on a lion, and on the right a man with a panther walking beside him. At their top is six giant Ionic columns with a triangular tympanum topped with a building symbol - a Pegasus. Inside the building is full of decorations, hall, foyer and other rooms are richly decorated. The theater audience seats about 1,000 people. Crystal chandelier and wall decorations also pay special attention.
