Museum of Musical Instruments. A branch of the National Museum. The Poznań museum has existed since 1857. It has been called the National since 1950. It is the only institution of this type in Poland and one of the few in Europe. It belongs to the oldest, largest and most important museums in Poland. The founder of the museum was Zdzisław Szulc (merchant, tennis player, collector, participant of the Greater Poland Uprising), who at the turn of 1945/46 gave his 80 objects to the Museum of Greater Poland, thus initiating a new chapter in the history of Polish music culture. The facility currently collects 2.5 thousand monuments from different eras and all continents, which consists of 4 divisions: European professional instruments, European folk instruments, Non-European instruments, Musicals. In 2001, the Museum issued the first Polish publication devoted to the master of Cremona entitled Genius Stradivari. Museum and library collections (approx. 4000 volumes) form the basis for research of Polish and foreign instrumentologists as well as students of musicology and music academies. The Poznań Museum of Instruments operates the only Musical Instrument Conservation Studio in Poland (since 1946), in which the former splendor of the objects is restored. Copies and reconstructions of archaeological or historical instruments are also created here. The director of the National Museum in Poznań has been prof. UAM dr hab. Wojciech Suchocki. The Museum of Musical Instruments will be inaccessible to visitors from April 1 to October 31, 2017. Brine. mnp.art.pl
