One of the oldest Polish churches and the oldest Polish cathedral (from 968), located in Ostrów Tumski. It is the burial place of the first Polish rulers and the supposed place of baptism of Mieszko I. The current Gothic cathedral was built in the 14th-15th century, partly rebuilt and regotized after the destruction of World War II. The cathedral is the burial place of the first Polish rulers up to Kazimierz the Restorer, as well as members of the Greater Poland Piast line. The wreath of the chapels surrounding the temple avoided major damage during the fire in 1945 and their original decor has survived to this day.
