Licheń Stary is the second most important pilgrimage center in Poland after Jasna Góra. The history of the sanctuary is associated with a small picture of the Mother of God, which was hung in a chapel on a pine tree in the nearby Grąbliński forest by Tomasz Kłossowski, a smith from Izabelin. On August 15, 1967, Cardinal Primate of Poland - Stefan Wyszyński, on the feast of the Assumption of the Mother of God, performed the act of coronation of the image of Our Lady of Licheń. In 2004, after ten years of work, a monumental five-nave basilica with a central dome was commissioned, according to a design by Barbara Bielecka from Gdynia. It is currently the largest temple in Poland, the eighth in Europe and the twelfth in the world. The temple is built on a cross plan. It consists of the main part, bell tower, tower and three magnificent porticos. In the belfry (measuring 68 m) was placed the bell "Mary the Mother of God" weighing almost 15 tons. It is the largest bell in Poland and the third largest in Europe. The church tower, 141 meters high, has two viewing terraces from which there is a view of the surrounding area. The sanctuary also has the largest organs in the country. They have 157 votes and approx. 20 thousand. pipes.
