Wielkopolska boasts numerous attractions, among which tourists are most attracted by Romanesque and Gothic churches and former strongholds. Wielkopolska, however, is not only impressive sacred buildings and early medieval strongholds. It is also a land rich in charming wooden churches. Those tourists who are fascinated with wooden construction will be happy to visit Słupca. Słupca and its surroundings are areas where such wooden temples have survived quite a lot. In Słupca itself you can see some interesting religious monuments. This is first the Gothic church of St. Lawrence. It was created in the mid-fifteenth century, and one of the most valuable elements of the interior design is the Gothic stoup and the Gothic sculpture of the Virgin Mary. The wooden church of St. Leonardo and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was created in the sixteenth century, and in the eighteenth century it was expanded. Chapels and a tower were added to it. Its interior is decorated with interesting polychrome from the 18th century, other interior furnishings are also valuable, including the late-Renaissance main altar from the 17th century with a Gothic painting of St. Leonard. This image was probably created in the first half of the 15th century. In this city it is also worth visiting the Regional Museum, which has an interesting exhibition devoted to archeology and ethnography. Other important monuments of Słupca are the remains of the former city walls and the remains of the prisoner of war cemetery. The POW camp in Słupca was most likely established in 1914 and it is believed that about 20,000 Russian prisoners of war were detained there. In the 1920s many Ukrainians were interned here. In the northern part of the city the Słupeckie Lake is a big attraction. This reservoir was built in the 1950s thanks to the damming of the Meszna. The main advantage for those who like water is the beach and the swimming pool. The surroundings of Słupca are known for beautiful rural wooden churches. One of the most interesting is the church of St. Małgorzata in Graboszew. Other wooden churches, which are worth paying some attention to during holiday trips around Wielkopolska, are in Młodojewo, Kowalewo Abbey and in Staw.
